Local 79 Market Development Department works to increase the Local's market share and promote the interests of its members. There are several ways the Market Development Department accomplishes its goals:
Pickets- Local 79 members can make the Union strong by participating in pickets and job actions. These activities let all non-union contractors know that Local 79 is watching and help guarantee union jobs.

Phone Banking- Local 79 members phone bank their union brothers and sisters to generate participation in pickets and political actions. Phone Bank are held every Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM at 520 8th Ave., 6th Floor.
Political Action- Politicians need to know that union members are active and they vote. Members can participate in Political Action phone banking, local political meetings and other activities.

Community Activism- Members who are involved with community groups can let them know that the union represents their members. Common ground with community groups lets all New Yorkers know that Local 79 is a voice for working people.
VOICE (Volunteer Organizing in Construction Empowerment) Class- Many Local 79 union members participate in the VOICE Training Class. VOICE not only educates members on the history and economics of the construction industry but also helps them understand some of the tactics we use and why.
VOICE II- A more advance VOICE training that focuses more on ongoing active community campaigns.
